Vigo is a large port city in the northwest of Spain and the biggest city in Galicia. The easiest 100-kilometre route of the Camino de Santiago starts from Vigo.
I will show the sights of Vigo in the order in which I saw them. I’ll say right away that Vigo is a large city, and I didn’t have enough time to see everything I wanted.
In Vigo, I stayed at the Hotel Atlántico.
The first interesting landmark in Vigo is the church called Igrexa de San Miguel de Bouzas. The first stone was laid in 1577

The interior of the Igrexa de San Miguel de Bouzas – the Church of San Miguel de Bouzas

In one of the niches of the Church of San Miguel de Bouzas, there is a sculptural group like this. As far as I understand, Saint Peter is in the boat, and Jesus is speaking to him

Avenue of Fish – Paseo dos Peixes
Not far from the Igrexa de San Miguel de Bouzas is the Avenue of Fish, Paseo dos Peixes. According to the inscription on the stone near the avenue, it was inaugurated in February 2011 Map
Next to the Avenue of Fish, there is a lighthouse

The Avenue of Fish in Vigo consists of sculptures of various sea creatures. The first one is an octopus, Octopus vulgaris

This is a European seabass, Dicentrarchus labrax.

This is a red scorpionfish, Scorpaena scrofa

This is a yacht with a sail

This is a pouting fish, also known as bib or Trisopterus luscus

This is a white seabream, Diplodus sargus

This is a conger, or sea eel – Conger.

This is a sardine.

This is a centolla, which is a crab.

This is a mejillón, a mussel.

And the last sculpture, which looks like a character from the movie Alien, is a percebe, a goose barnacle

Let’s continue our walk around Vigo. This is the square Praza Porta do Sol, and the sculpture is called O Sereo, the Mermaid

Charming sculptures called ‘The Family’ (A Familia; sculptor Buciños) are located here

The church opposite my hotel is the Igrexa de Santiago de Vigo

Now, let’s talk about what else you can see in Vigo. Along Av. Gran Via, there are glass greenhouses like these. Inside, there’s a horizontal escalator (a travelator) and many different plants. I took this photo from the window of a bus while passing through Vigo on my way back from Santiago. There are plenty of photos of these greenhouses on Google Map

At the Praza de España, from which Av. Gran Via begins there’s also an interesting sculpture with horses. I passed it by bus as well
In Vigo, there is a hill where a castle used to stand Castelo do Castro. On the hill, there is a park that offers wonderful views of the city. There’s also another fortress in Vigo Castelo de San Sebastián.
The Cathedral of Vigo Concatedral – Basílica de Santa María de Vigo, this is where the Camino de Santiago starts from Vigo.
Interesting sculptures on the waterfront Escultura “Sempre Benéfica”, Monumento a Jules Verne – A monument to Jules Verne, where he is depicted sitting on an octopus
