Redondela is a municipality located in the province of Pontevedra, in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain. Situated on the banks of the Vigo estuary, Redondela is known for its beautiful coastal landscapes and historical sites. The town itself features charming medieval streets and a range of architectural styles, including the Santiago de Compostela Church and the Pontevedra Castle.

The first thing I saw when I arrived in the town was this structure overhead. At first, I didn’t understand what it was, but then I saw a train passing over the bridge. The town has an old viaduct, and this metal bridge connects to it.

According to Wikipedia, there are actually two 19th-century viaducts in Redondela. When I was leaving the town, I took a closer photo of one of them. These viaducts are notable examples of 19th-century engineering and architecture and are important landmarks in the town. They were built to carry railway lines over the valleys and streets of Redondela, creating an impressive sight with their tall stone arches and metal structures. Today, trains still pass over them, making them a distinctive feature of the town’s landscape.

The river that flows through Redondela is called the Alamá River. It’s a small river that eventually flows into the Ría de Vigo estuary. In the town, parts of it run openly while other sections are covered or pass under bridges and buildings.

I took a walk along the river through the park and back.

You can already feel autumn here. A view of the river flowing through Redondela, lined with trees and parked cars along its banks. Above the river stands the historic iron railway viaduct, an impressive 19th-century structure, while a modern road bridge crosses below it. The bright blue sky and scattered clouds create a beautiful backdrop, highlighting the blend of historic and contemporary architecture in the town.

Swans and a seagull glide gracefully along the calm, blue waters of the river in Redondela. The sunlight reflects on the rippling surface, creating shimmering patterns, while the birds add a peaceful, natural touch to the scene.

The majestic Monastery of Vilavella stands as an impressive architectural landmark in Redondela. Dating back centuries, it features beautiful stone facades, elegant arches, and a peaceful cloister. Over the years, it has served both religious and community purposes and remains an important part of the town’s cultural and historical heritage.

Narrow streets in the historic center of Redondela, lined with old stone buildings, traditional balconies, and softly glowing street lamps. The wet pavement reflects the light, adding to the charming and slightly mysterious atmosphere of the town in the evening. On the left, a yellow arrow indicates the direction of the Camino de Santiago, guiding pilgrims through the town.
