The gnomes of Wrocław

The gnomes of Wrocław are called Krasnale. There are very many gnomes in Wrocław — in 2019 there were 600 of them. Of course, it is impossible to find them all in one day. The gnomes that I found are located in the centre of Wrocław near the Market Square (Rynek).

The Kirkland gnome is located in the main building of the University of Wrocław. The sculpture is dedicated to graduates and scholarship holders of the Kirkland programme.

Krasnal Elementek

Krasnal Elementek is located on the railing of the pedestrian crossing at ks. Piotra Skargi 1 (map). The gnome arrived in Wrocław to meet other gnomes and began building a staircase in order to see them all.

The inspiration for the name "Elementek" came from the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) logo — a rectangular green element that can be seen on many of the company's products. The element symbolises problem-solving and achieving a desired goal. (source)

“TynQuś has long since earned the title of gnome of the week — for it is he who fixes all the crumbling plaster, peeling walls and other construction deficiencies in the gnomes’ city.

After the gnome city authorities ordered the closure of certain entrances to the underground passages, it fell to him to carry out the gnome council’s decree in practice. Residents of Wrocław and tourists can watch him at work in person.

Many smile and note that the gnome has grown a little “tired” of his work, yet other gnomes acknowledge that he never causes any trouble and always performs his duties excellently. As we have managed to find out, his hidden hobby is woodcarving.

He once dreamed of a career as an artist, but the realities of life forced him to take up something simpler, though well respected among gnomes.”
